The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) began its Country Programmes for Thailand in November 1971, shortly after the Royal Thai Government launched its National Family Planning Programme. To date, UNFPA has funded six Country Programmes covering 1971-1976, 1977-1978, 1979-1982, 1983-1986 and 1987-1991. The Sixth Country Prgramme ran from 1992-1996 with financial assistance totalling US$7,000,000. At the end of 1995, UNFPA had supported over 80 country projects at a cost of US$35 million. For its part, the Thai Government has invested US$215 million in the National Family Planning Programme.
