Bangkok, 20 January 2006
Southeast Asia and Southern Provinces of China will have a new Regional Strategy on Mobility and HIV Vulnerability Reduction for 2006-2008. This is a common endeavor of the countries in the region to expand the coverage of friendly access to prevention and care services for internal and cross-border Migrants and Mobile populations who have been neglected since the beginning of the epidemic.

This new strategy is being developed by more than 50 persons from GOs, UNs and Civil Society agencies, People Living With HIV/AIDS and Migrant representatives working on HIV/AIDS and Mobility in 8 countries in the region. All are members of the UN Regional Task Force on Mobility and HIVVulnerability Reduction. The Task Force is a Bangkok based multi-sectoral body, convened by the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand and that meets every 6 months. Its role is to identify priorities and propose programmatic and policy actions to reduce mobility related HIV vulnerability in the region. The TF met recently in Bangkok ( 19-20 January) and endorsed the new strategy that is now being finalised.
