The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Kim Hak-Su, United Nations Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Flying Officer Apinan Sumanseni, President of Thai Airways, Mr. Wallop Bhukkanasut, Executive Vice President, Commercial Department, Thai Airways, Mr. Rangsiman Mokkhamasit, Director, Area Thailand, Thai Airways Mr. Thanawat, Country Leader, Global Travel - Thailand, American Express.

Under this tripartite agreement, UN Agencies represented in Thailand have agreed to consider THAI as an established carrier for international and domestic travel in line with the United Nations Rules and Regulations and Procedures. THAI will provide “Special Fare” exclusively for the UN Agencies’ staff members traveling. "This agreement is a local one in which it affects travel emanating from Bangkok, not any other location. The agreement also recognizes American Express (Thai) Co., Ltd. as the only UN Travel Agent," said Mr. Peter Van Laere, Director of Administrative Services Division of UNESCAP.

“The United Nations is excited about this innovative approach to building a win-win partnership between the United Nations and the business community. We believe that the extensive regional network of Thai Airways as well as some of its attractive routes, such as the non-stop express flight between Bangkok and New York, will allow us to capitalize on this Agreement, thus increasing the use of Thai Airways”, said Mr. Kim Hak-Su, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Mr. Kim also added that this Agreement is a major step in helping the United Nations to reduce its administrative and overhead costs.

“Today, we are pleased to announce that THAI has moved yet another step forward in the area of corporate sales by entering into an MOU or “global contract” with the United Nations in a corporate travel agreement facilitating travel for employees in all U.N. departments ,” said Mr. Wallop Bhukkanasut, Executive Vice President, Commercial Department, Thai Airways.
